Thank God for Christmas.

There's been a lot going on in my mind these days...
With all the wonderful, joyous season's spirit hovering around me. God has been such a "God" to me. I don't even know where to start thanking Him. I sometimes feel so small and undeserving of all that He has given me. As if being born into a Christian family was not enough. I'm so blessed to understand His grace and salvation. Thank God for Christmas!
This Christmas has been an eye-opener for me. No, I did not dance in the church or shout out praises loud in the church. Nor did I get any extra dime to spend with my friends. It's just the realization of being so much blessed. I had my family, friends and my boyfriend with me this Christmas. I couldn't ask for more. Thank God for Christmas!

All in the mood for Holidays... or not quite yet.

I know, every time I write is always a long-time-no-see post. You can't blame me. The end-semester exams were one hell of a hectic time. And on top of that sleepless nights of working and assignments didn't even pay off! Sigh.
Now, I'm in the airport in Delhi, being as early as I can be, waiting to board the plane to Guwahati. I can't wait to be at home. I miss my dog the most, Tommy. Not that I don't miss my family. Hehe. This feeling of wanting to be at home during the Christmas holidays is so new to me. Being away from home for the very first time, I never knew one can be this nostalgic during the season. In fact  I always thought I was the kinda girl who was not really into this whole "lonely" thing. I was so free and independent, loved to be alone, loved to hang out with almost anyone. Not anymore.
I celebrated my 19th Birthday on the 15th of December. Well, not really "celebrate". My parents came over to Delhi on the 14th on their way back from an official trip. I spent a night and saw the dusk of my born day with them, which was very special. However, dropping them off early  in the morning was not a good start.
I spent the whole afternoon alone in the room of my PG, crying, yes, literally. Umm, there's goes one confession! I missed being at home, not that we would party or anything even back there, but the feeling of being with people who you know will care no matter what is priceless. I'm not talking about anything new here. I know a lot of you have faced this many times, now I understand.
That feeling and the pressure of exams didn't actually help in getting me the Christmas spirit. I just hadn't felt the air yet. Being in the capital where this season is highly commercial did nothing to me. Every time I Facebook or read blogs, everyone wrote so much about shopping, being at home and Christmas decorations. So, I decided the first thing I would do after the exams is shop, shop and shop.

The Big Red Trend

"Loving him is Red", says the country princess Taylor Swift in her latest single Red. Well, I still don't exactly know what she's trying to tell us here, but I love the concept of how she publicizes the album. Fashion-wise concept. I've been studying her style ever-since the "White Horse" and "Tim McGraw " days. She has transformed from a typical country dress-wearing teen to a classy retro adult.
In the promos for her album, she has been spotted wearing a lot of French Connection black and white sweaters or tops and a red pant. She carried it off well, with the red lips that compliment her.

Swift's pictures have been flooding my Facebook news feed, and you know what they say, when you see too much of one thing, you tend to get that inside of your head.
And it so happened that one fine morning I wake up, take a bath, and have no clue what to wear in the college. Plus, I was getting so late! I just took out whatever I saw, assembled and off I went. After a while in the college, my friends started to compliment on what I was wearing. Thus, leading to some photo-shoot.

Back to Work

I've been getting a lot of messages asking me where I've been and why I haven't posted stuffs lately. Well, I've been so busy, I'd like to apologize.
HAHA (lar ve hmel rap!) :D .  Screw it. The truth is, I am the one who misses myself when I don't blog. I feel like there's a part of me that wants to speak out loud but is held inside. Seriously, I've been busy being lazy. Plus, no photographers! Pfft. I have to click my own photos. I sometimes get my roomie to do it for me. Thank you Kavita.
Diwali breaks were fun. I spent time with my family after four months of being away. Staying away from home have taught be more than I expected. I learnt about the value of family, space (yea, Delhi is congested), healthy food and most importantly, Money. Money IS paper, you know, just flies with the wind.
Ignore my pimple :P

Achromatic and all the Greys in Between.

Achromatic is defined as "without color", "grey", "neutral" or "black". The word has been my Biggest nightmare this week. It has bought me depression which tags pimples along. Urgh.

Elements Of Design. Or better known as, EOD by the Niftians, is one of the core subjects in our course. This week our assignment was to create value charts of base colors with their tints and shades. The class was divided into groups as to who was suppose to make which set for the entire class. I was secretly hoping for Achrome as the rest of the colors had so many proportions and measurements included in them. And as luck would have had it, we did get Achrome. I wouldn't lie, I was happy. Prayers answered.

Got to work. Nothing like expected. Getting gray-scales correct with utmost precision was no cake-walk. Therefore I could not get the graduation Mam' wanted. The rest is history. I'm not here to embaress myself you know *bleh*.

Untitled. That's it. Untitled.

Happy Gandhi Jayanti. Hah. Seriously.
Okay, I am officially jobless, so my roomie threw me some clothes and I began with my usual experiments and nosy advises on what would look good with which and transforming the "unwearable" into wearable. This is the thing with fashion. You don't necessarily buy new stuffs to get a new look. You just need to dig deep into your wardrobe, literally, and mix-match.

What's with Girls and Malls?

"Stoned in the mall,
the kids play,
and in this way,
wish away each day..."

After what actually felt like weeks of hard work, me and Amelia (Ghosh) had this strong urge of hitting the mall. I haven't been to Select City Walk Mall, Saket, so we dragged Sonal (Singh) along and headed to it.
Okay, Sonal wasn't very excited with the whole idea of feeling poor in a big mall of clothes we wouldn't be actually buying. However, it's fun... You know the feeling right? Girls? Huh?
So, we were checking out and gushing over all the cool stuffs, read: Clothes. Shoes. Bags. Accessories and what not, and Sonal was busy texting her friends to shoo away her boredom. She texted a friend of hers asking why girls love the mall, and her friend bluntly replies: SHINY STUFFS.
That got me thinking, what really attracts girls to malls and stores even though we know we're not buying them? Why do we torture ourselves? Okay, no offence, we do buys stuffs... at least on occasions but then again, we hit the mall not only on occasions right?
Mermaid in the mall bitches...!!!
Malls in India has become such a trend among the youth that it's impossible to imagine a "hang-out" without hitting them. Not only the youth, it has become a get-together place for families as well. I remember the first mall in Guwahati- Hub, when it opened in 2004, we went there for every occasion, be it birthday shopping or Christmas. Now, 2012, the number of malls just multiplied drastically - Sohum, The Cube, Vishal-the Mega Mart, Pantaloons, and so on... With the increase in the income of people, comes along a need of splurging an indulging in luxury goods. I ain't complaining, because I am among the many youngsters who enjoy loitering around there, specially in Dona Planet where every Guwahati kid sit on the stairs and just pass the time away.

Cafe6

Okay. No matter how daring and adventurous I'd like to think of myself, I'm not that bold when it comes to trying out new food joints, even food in itself. I'm known for picking either Chicken fried rice or Chicken chowmein wherever and whenever I eat out. LoL. I've been staying here in Hauz Khas for nearly two months and I hadn't even tried out Cafe6. That's something for a resident of this urban posh area.
It's Bharat Bandh today. Super sunny. Somehow, I had this strong urge to have lunch elsewhere and not order the same boring tiffin. My roomie had some friend to meet up for lunch, so I was pathetically single. 12:30pm and I called up a friend of mine who stayed nearby and asked her if she wanted to have lunch with me. She said yes, and I had a date.
Mind you, I woke up pretty early and had a hearty breakfast. However, my stomach seems to run like a machine which needs oiling up every two hours or three. I think I'm getting healthier day by day.. pfft.. okay, back to the topic, my friend Tavishi is a regular at Cafe6 so she guided me with the menu. We both had Cheesy Chicken Burger and I had to have Choco Coffee Krushers.
It was D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S. I'm not good at describing the taste of a food, so I won't go there, but it was definitely worth the try. Considering how tasty the stuffs were, the price was very fair. Hell, I'm still very full and it's been nearly 4 hours now!

The Geek-Chic

Today was one heck of a day. The subject Fashion Orientation demanded us to present a sub-culture for the Mid-term assignments and so, our group chose-- tadaaah!! GeeK-ChiC.

A White Sunday

It's been a while since I last blogged. I've been really busy with my assignments and NIFT has really drained out my creativity. LoL. Plus, loneliness.
After church service
Every weekend I stay out of my paying-guest for a sleepover at my aunt's or my cousin's place. Living in a small room for an entire week really suffocates me. I need air. Being an 18 year old, every active teen, I always look forward to spend a night or two out and have some proper food. Food, I love.

NeIFT @ Delhi Haat

Date: 10th Aug, 2012
Time: 8:30pm-9:30pm
Venue: Dilli Haat, New Delhi.

All smiles

I have been staying here in Delhi  for almost three weeks now and still haven't been to Delhi Haat. That was something. When my very dear friend Jenny called me up and informed me about her fashion show to be held there, I couldn't give no for an answer. Now, Jenny is a student in North-East Institute of Fashion Technology in Guwahati and a very good friend of mine. The show was organised by NeIFT for the passing out students, and for a fashion student like me, it was a good opportunity to see how things go.
So, me and three of my cousins, all of them were siblings, headed out for Delhi Haat. I was so confused as to what to wear. My cousin Pupuii was like,

She's Trending

Hey guys, I know I've been so quite lately and it's all thanks to my hectic classes and assignments. Not only that, adjusting in a whole new, bigger city without your family around is really not going easy.
However, on a brighter note, we've been having vibrant subjects in the college, one of them is Fashion Orientation. I'm really loving it. It's the one subject where my knowledge is better than the rest. LoL.
One of our assignments is to junk up our Learning Diaries with pictures and information about our fashion icon. I have so many of them, and choosing one was darn difficult. I went for Camille Co. Of course you know her, I've blogged about her once. Now that I've been researching on her better, I'm starting to get obsessed.
Her style is so affordable, easy on the skin kind, not too flashy but very trendy .
These are her very recent pics in New York City.
These dresses are REALLY in! I love her sandals and tweed combo. Very unusual, but actually works!

Blue and Red for July 4rth.
P.S. I can see a lot of these trends in the campus as well.

Duh! PuYees... *

We all have a friend we've grown up with and still love them to death. Here's one such friend, I call her Ditpui, the rest of you might know her as Puii or Jezreel.

MawiPuii and DitPuii
Angel on Earth
Back in 1997, on the campus of Little Flower School, Hatigaon, were two little girls, stepping into a whole new world... One was crying and just couldn't leave her mother's hands. The other was pulling her into the school and comforting her, well, at least trying to!
I was the other girl, and Puii, the sensitive, shy little girl. How things have changed over the years... Jezreel evolved into a beautiful butterfly. She's pretty, smart and well-spoken. Her sense of dressing, splendid. The type of style Coco Chanel would call- Fabulous and Classy. Surprisingly, she hardly speaks about fashion and clothes even when we have a nice girl-friend time.
Jezreel is still very sensitive, a part of her which only I know. The way her eyes turn all glassy when she talks about sensitive subjects and the way her cheeks flush red when she gets embarrassed reminds me of the girl I spent most of my childhood palying "house-house" with. Me, my brother, She and her sister spend most of the days in their balcony doing all the silliest stuff. I still remember I used to stay for lunch at their place, just because I wanted to have butter, and my mom won't allow it at home! LoL.
There was a huge advantage of staying in the same colony. We always met up to practice dance. Some of the famous songs we danced to were, You are my Sonia from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Koi Mil Gaya from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and so on.
Sands of Goa
For a few years we lost contact. They shifted to an outskirt area, and I changed my school. However when we really grew up and started to meet up once in a while again, it didn't take much for me to realize she's still the same Jezreel. My Ditpuii. No matter what people talk behind her back, she never thinks bad about them. It still amazes how kind and caring she is. And not just that, it's fun to be with her! We can go from total bitches to angels in 0.05 seconds!

Her look on Easter Sunday
When she walks into a room, there's no one who doesn't notice her. She has that special effect. maybe it's her clothes, maybe the way she blinks or those endless legs. Whatever the thing is, she'll always be such an inspiration.

Full Name: Jezreel Puii Hmar
Age: 18yrs
Studies in: Jesus and Mary College, New Delhi.
Hobbies: Shopping, Sleeping, Eating, Going out for Brunch, Hanging out with friends, etc.
Fav. Brands: Zara, Vero Moda, DNA, Forever 21, Forever New, TopShop, etc.
Fashion Inspiration: No one in particular.. Looks from Lookbook and Magazines.

5 easy tips to avoid a Fashion Disaster

Ohkay.. India is a country where people are obsessed with fashion and style. However, not many of us get a look right. This is not because we do not know what is beautiful, instead it's because we do not know what to pair with which garment, which shoe to wear on what occasion,  which color goes with what, and the likes. So, here is my own little tip on how to get a look right and avoid a major Fashion Disaster. Remember, you do not want to be remembered because of a flaw you could have avoided.

1. Know Yourself and Accept it
Know your shape and complexion. This is the most important thing you need to keep in mind whenever you dress up. I don't think I need to tell you what flatters what shape because you must have read it a thousand times. It's there in almost every fashion magazine. Then where do we go wrong? Here. Accepting ourselves. Sometimes even though we know we are this or that, we don't seem to follow what will flatter us. This is mainly because we are blinded by the beauty of the garment or by the comments of friends whom we take advice from. Remember, at the end of the day, people will judge you, not from where you take your advice from.
2. Follow trends.
Okay, this is where I beg to differ from most of the fashion advises given. For me, as much as personal style is important, the current "what's in Vogue" matters a lot too. If what's trending is not your style, you could always modify it here and there to make it yours... For example, I love floral and it is soooo IN this summer. However, it completely makes me unnecessarily colorful and distorted. So what do I do? I wear the dresses along with summery cardigans, or wear floral bow clips in my hair. Even if I do wear the dress, I make sure it is not multi-colored and I tie up my hair, neat. See, not following trends can really hamper your image. For example, You shouldn't be seen wearing bell-bottom jeans right now.
3. No blind trending.
Now, this might look as a stark contrast to tip 2, but it is not. This is connected to tip both tip 1 and 2. I really believe in trending, but there are some trends which some people should just avoid. For me, Peplums are to be avoided because I have a heavy bottom. I avoid color-blocking too, because I have a dusky skin. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that all dusky people cannot color-block, but it is a harsh truth that color-blocking favors just a few audiences. Just because Michelle Obama looks good with a yellow dress and parrot-green pumps, doesn't mean I can wear that to a gathering here.
4. Know your Age and Class.
Forgive for my lack of appropriate words. However, I find it very funny when a college student dresses up too classy for her/his age. You might have the money, but save those. Even Queen B, Blair Waldorf (Yes, GG) dropped her headbands when she entered NYU, just to fit in! Spare the leathers for a classy event. If you are 40, a cloth handbag won't do either, leather spells fashion for you. Girls and guys, you have a lot of time to wear diamond jewellery, experiment with younger and innovative materials at a younger age. Act your age and know what suits your status in the society.
5. Know your city.
People stare at us in the streets either when we look A-H-M-A-Z-I-N-G or when we look like an Alien. Avoid the latter. We are no Lady Gaga, let's face it. As much as experimenting is cool, it is also important to note the social norms, climate or landscape of the place you live in. Wearing a maxi in New York may not be the most fashionable thing to do, and nor will shopping in heels in Mumbai.

P.S. Excuse my harsh truths. *burp*

Numbers- "1NF1N1TY".. Rachel Ward

Numbers-"1NF1N1TY"... Rachel Ward

This Mind-Blowing Conclusion to the Chilling Trilogy is a journey to 2029, two years after the Chaos. Sarah, Adam and Mia are struggling to survive. Little Mia was supposed to die that New Year's day, and Adam clearly knows that numbers don't lie. Yet somehow she survives and more surprisingly, nan, who still had years left, died instead. Was it Mia who did all of these? Mia's just a baby, oblivious to her superpower.
1NF1N1TY is so much more than just numbers. What I find intriguing about this book is the way it potrays human selfishness to live forever and never die. Through Saul, a character who goes beyond humanity, we see to what extend we all go to fulfill our selfish desires and simply consider the bad as good just because it works for us. But then again, through characters like Daniel, we realise that beyond all the evils, there are still some people left in this world, because of whom the world is worth living in. Having friends without any selfish benefits.
Do grab a copy of the series. There's something for everyone. You'll find it thrilling, romantic yet action-packed. RACHEL WARD is the author of the internationally acclaimed Numbers trilogy. She lives in Bath, England, with her husband and their two children.

"NUM8ERS- TH3 CHA0S"... Rachel Ward

Numbers- "TH3 CHA0S" by Rachel Ward

The Earth-Shattering (literally) Sequel to the Shocking Debut is all about Jem's son Adam as he learns how to cope up with his "gift" yet without his mother. He has got Val on his side but that won't ease the shocking pain he feels that go with the deaths of the people whose dates he see.
Now, Adam is fifteen, as old as his mother was when she had to witness the London Eye incident. Adam is back to London with his great grandmother. The city is alien to him but more than that, he can't help but notice how many of them are dying on the same date: 01012027. He has a feeling he can change the fate of many people by warning them, but also gets reminded of how her parents were treated when they tried to bring "change".
In this sequel, we are introduced to a girl named Sarah and her role in Adam's life and bringing life to the Chaos. She has somehow been able to see it all coming, but she couldn't let Adam into her life easily because he is the one who drags her baby to the flames, in her nightmare. Is her nightmare coming true? She swears she saw Adam in her dreams long before she actually saw him live. So does that mean London is going to shake and burn as it does in her dreams? Will She and Adam actually work together to save the city?

You can buy the books online as well: www.flipkart.com ... The price of this sequel is $9.99 (do the conversion yourself :PP)

"Numbers"... Rachel Ward

I was introduced to this magnetic set of books by my younger brother, Andrew when he bought the part 1 in the school book fair. It was the Scholastic edition priced Rs. 299.

Numbers - Rachel Ward
What makes this book extra special for me is that when I studied in Army Public School, Basistha, in Guwahati, I gave a book report during the morning assembly on Numbers. I was in my 11th standard. The teachers were so impressed by the book report that everyone enquired more about it. One such teacher was Kim mam, the Business Studies teacher, one of the favorites of the seniors of our school. She actually told me she was going to buy the book since it seemed so interesting judging by the report! Okay, this is what book reports are meant to do, (duh..!! right?) but in school assemblies no one ever took them seriously, and so, I consider it a great feat. LoL.

Numbers part one is mainly about a girl named Jem. She is a gifted girl. Her character is very reserved, strong, nearly aggressive and pessimist. However, she behaves the way she does because of the power she actually inherits from her mother. Here, I'm breaking the ice for you. Oopsy. Can't help! She can see the date of death of a person when she meets the eyes and because of this "gift" she goes through a very difficult phase in her life, specially when she meets the love of her life, a guy she calls Spider. As if being able to see his number wasn't enough, she gets caught in a mazy kinda situation with the government and she gets through all these with the help of Val, Spider's grandma. How does she tackle with all these hurdles... You'll have to find that out yourself.. :) I'll let you know more about Numbers- The Chaos on my next post :)

Superman Craze

Well, we all can't deny having a superhero moment at some point of our lives. My moment came not when I was 8 or 10, but now, at 18. My story began with a guy. I used a pic in my facebook account as a cover which said "Every Supergirl needs a Superman", and from that day on, some buddies started calling him that. And from that day on, I became superman crazy, and not just romantically, but, fashion-wise. Everytime I shopped, I searched for a S-man shirt or any accessory but I never found something "different", until the Fancy Bazaar trip I made. I found this piece in a store called Cotton City and the moment I saw it, I knew THIS is my piece. My Superman.
Here is my own version--

Every Supergirl needs a Superman... <3

Shop Shop Shop

I practically shopped till I dropped today! Phew.. I shopped in this market called Fancy Bazaar in Guwahati. I hardly go there despite the cheap and cool stuffs because, well, its far from my place and very dirty. No offence. But as usual, cheap stuffs are always good, lol. Ok, not that much because the quality isn't that up to the mark. However, students like us can't be too picky, can we?
I bought some bags for my college. I'll be joining in National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), in New Delhi. So, even when the baby, cute stuffs really caught my eye, I HAD to avoid them!! :D My mom was like, "Professional line-ah te I kal tawh dawn sia, naupang chhia lutuk chu chi toh lawh alawm..." Gee. So I went back to being Me. The hippie. I bought a maroon cloth bag, with a white skul print, huge one. And an Eco-friendly white bag with prints that say Sunday.. Monday.. Tuesday.. blah blah blah.. It's really cool. I also bought some toilet bags, polka-dotted ones. I needed a purse, but none of them really convinced my eye.
I also bought a dark red jegging, very cheap ;) One piece I bought, which I loved is a lacey blue-ish cardigan. Hmm.. I'll upload the pic asap kk... :)

Cher Lloyd- Want You Back

Love the clothes out here. The styling's great. The black and grey crop tee, the orange polka-dot shirt, the shoes and of course, the hair and make-up?? Phenomenal.
the accessories work just right for a music video, but to really carry off it in real-life, we'll have to slow down with the clothes.
I love the pink lips and the eyes... gawd.
Good job- Ayishat & Louize, Cher Lloyd's official stylists.

Mom's Closet

i wonder what i find next
I know it's not just me who's fond of digging into mom's closet. I mean, what's more fun than wearing a vintage piece which is back in Vogue?
Smiling all the time... hihi :P

Five reason's why I think MOM's closet is cool:
1. It's for FREE!!
2. It's back in trend. The 1980s and 1990s are      so IN.
3.The quality of clothes is so much better.
4. It's fun to relive what our mom's have lived, at least through the clothes.
5. It's vintage, always. Old is Gold. :)

Clash of the Prints

No one ever said everything had to be perfect.
Here I am wearing my mom's vintage shirt with cotton skirt from Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi and a bag from New Delhi as well. My corduroy belt with gold metallic buckle did it's trick and my fashion clashing is good to go.

Camille

Camille Co. is one of my fav. fashion bloggers.
In this pic she shows us exactly how color-blocking between two colors of different shades is done. Love the use of nude shoes there. And her hair color works wonders.

Inspiration

There has been a lot of blogs which has inspired mine.. Although my blog is completely different to theirs, it motivated to start doing this thing again. Some of those blogs are..http://lahlahishere.blogspot.in/ and http://blog-project.net/takahashi-ai. Check them out.

The Alpha

Okay.. so this is my first post for my blog. Honestly, this is not the first blog I made. Whatever I made in the past never really worked out well. My bad.
I want to post my own, simple pic as a starter.. Here goes. This is me wearing my mom's vintage shirt with a belt and formal straight-cut pants with simple ballerina shoes. The bag is also my mom's- Jane Shilton.
